Why are the left overly joyed with the fact we have a Muslim mayor?

    In its pure form absolutely. But Khan is a secular Muslim. It's a great example for other young Muslims out there to go the way of Khan, and not be tempted by extremism.

    I'd also add having secular Muslims fight against the extremist element in ther religion is wonderful, especially if it encourages other young Muslims to do the same.
    We will see

    To be honest I'm not that fussed that he is a Muslim one way or the other.

    Normally I agree and dislike identity politics but this case is an exception imo.
    Having a secular Muslim being leader of one of the biggest cities in the world sets an excellent example and aspiration for young Muslims in the fight against extremism.
