why do people put "X" at the end of a text?

So i slid into the DMs of this girl that commented on my Insta photo. When we where talking she would allays put "X" at the end of each sentence, for example: "when i get home X" so, why would a girl use a "X" in text and what does it mean?

I think it might be better to solve for Y first.
"x" originally was used to indicate a kiss. Like xo for hugs and kisses

Now it's just used by mainly girls to be friendly. Kind of like putting ":smile:" at the end of ur sentence. It doesn't mean you are actually smiling.
e.g
I have to go now x
I have to go now :smile:

Now when you start getting 3 or 4 x's then that means they want the ****ing D m8 or you're in the friend zone
