    Yeah I hope you guys are right about the boundaries there. The thing is, Edexcel changed the format of the question quantity this year with there being a total of 52 questions instead of the usual 40 combined as in past years.

    170 sounds a lot more reasonable than 180, I just hope your guys are right about that.

    c) i did the quad correct to the x^2-10x+9 or w.e then tried the quad form, got wrong answer - how many should i get?

    Oh dear some people hey!

    I totally agree with you

    45million X = 60 million

    100((60/45)-1)=33.3

    I kicked myself so hard at the end of that exam, I didn't realise that question was a quadratic >.< Major blunder.
    Still put lots and lots and lots of working out Maybe I can scrape a few marks from that.

    Hey theolympic

    Tanks for that explonation but wont the answer from the factorised part be
    +1 and -9 because if one set of brackets equal 0 then the other has got to so if it +9 X=-9

    Am i right.

    Thanx for explaining though! I got it wrong

    To be honest i don't think the grade boundries are going to be that high at all. Everyone in here may well think the papers were easy, but people who can be arsed to go to the trouble of discussing an exam over the internet are likely to be quite commited studets. Also, all the GCSE maths papers are "easy" and have low grade boundaries and it will be the same this year!

    Re: Edexcel Maths Higher Calculator Paper - How was it?
    right, someone please explain why it was 33.3% please. %change = change/original x 100. so... 6.0x10^7 - 4.5x10^7 = 1.5x10^7
    1.5x10^7 / 6.0x10^7 = 0.25 x 100 = 25%
    how are you getting 33.3%

    Yeah I tend to agree that we do overlook the ability of the entire country and base certain standards to reflect the performance of candidates that solely post on TSR. I just hope the grade boundaries aren't set too high to restrict those who admittedly lost marks due to silly mistakes - like the % increase on that standard form question for me! I can't believe I got 25% and didn't take the change from 45,000,000 instead of 60,000,000 citizens! That was a two marker...right...guys...stay with me...stay with me...please?

    right, someone please explain why it was 33.3% please. %change = change/original x 100. so... 6.0x10^7 - 4.5x10^7 = 1.5x10^7
    1.5x10^7 / 6.0x10^7 = 0.25 x 100 = 25%
    how are you getting 33.3%
    you divide it by the original in 1933 or waterver

    so 1.5*10^7/4.5*10^7 * 100
    = 33.33333333333
    =33.3% to 1 DP

    ye u are right. this person has factorised wrongly, it shud b (x-1) (x-9) to get x^2-10x+9

    Re: Edexcel Maths Higher Calculator Paper - How was it?
    216° was given as the reflex angle of the arc, and 15cm as the radius. I used these things to find the length of the arc by obviously doing:

    pi x d (30cm) x 216/360

    I believe that the arc length would give me the actual circumference of the base, because when the net is folded, that would be the bottom edge. So if you do the calculation for the arc length above, you find the circumference of the base must be 56.54866776.

    So I did

    56.54866776= πd
    18=d (divded by pi)
    so base r= 9

    I then just drew a right angled triangle with the side slope (15cm), the radius of the base (9cm) and the height that was asked for. And used pythagorases theorem like this

    15²-9²=144
    √144=h
    h=12.
