Dear Potential Participant

My name is Kirsty Edwards and I am a post-graduate student at the Institute of Criminal Justice Studies(ICJS), at the University of Portsmouth. I would like to invite you to participate in a research study that I am undertaking as part of my Master’sDegree.

My study aims to look at participants’ experiences of bullying online and to evaluate whether there is a need for the introduction of tougher legislation to tackle cyberbullying.This survey will help to build an overall picture of how the victims of cyberbullying are affected by it and therefore understand whether the arguments for tougher legislation are justified.

The admin(s) of this forum have given their consent for this invitation and links to a Participant Information Sheet and Survey Questionnaire to be posted here.

Your participation in this study is completely voluntary, however once you have submitted your responses you may not withdraw from the research. Your responses will be helpful in understanding how cyberbullying affects the lives of those who are victim to it and what more can be done to protect victims.

There is an Information Sheet and survey questionnaire linked to this invitation letter. The survey will be completed anonymously, therefore, your identity will not be known to anyone. Responses from completed questionnaires will be collated for analysis as part of this research project, and will be stored in a secure environment only accessible by me as researcher, in accordance with Data Protection legislation. Once the research has been completed, the results analysed and my dissertation is awarded a mark that is ratified by the University’s Board of Examiners, all original questionnaires will be destroyed.
