Whats the weather like in Manchester?

I was just wondering how cold does it get in Manchester, like temperature wise and how windy it is and so on. Also, how often does it rain? Does it ever snow?

I come from a country with a very continental climate (Really hot in the summer, up to 40 degrees celsius, and kind of chilly in the winter, not lower than 10 degrees celsius). And it really doesnt rain except a few times a year. I'd like to make sure that I have the right type of clothing i need before coming to Manchester in Sept. hopefully.

Thanks!

It does rain in Manchester but no more than most cities in the UK, temperature wise in the summer it can go up to about 32c although this is very rare. 18-26c is typical for the summer months.

In the winter the temperature can be anything from -4 to 10c so you will need gloves and and a nice warm winter coat for the winter.

Weather in Manchester is usually sh*te, but as long as you stay away from Leeds you won't die of pneumonia.

Lol we were gloves for anything below 5c. Although in the old days when he had Lada's (when the were legal in the EU) if we forgotton our gloves we would look out for broken down lada's and push them at rear window (this warms your hands up).

Lada's did have their uses.

Manchester: The city where the sun never stops shining...in spirit.

When coming to Manchester, always prepare for cold, wet weather. I think we have something called "summer" for a couple of days around this time of year where the temperatures are abnormally warm. However, that quickly finishes and we get back to rain.

They may before your time, they stopped importing them into the UK from 1997 as the EU made the sale of the ilegal (they broke imissions laws).

They are basicaly a russian car (based on a 1964 FIAT 126) which were rust buckets and very unreliable. My dad had one.

I wondered if your name was connected with a Lada. The Niva Cossack 1.7 wasn't too bad.

My dad had a Riva 1200L, I am not sure what the russian name is for it, it was in the scapyard at 60k miles though.

Lol they still have fan belts:rolleyes:

My 10 year old escort has done 70k miles and is still like brand new in the way it drives, it just shows how unreliable Lada's are.

They do have their uses; they are extremely tough (you can throw bricks at them) but are damn heavy so are crap to drive and guzzle the fuel. They are still quite popular with farmers etc. as they are very easy to fix yourself (they are so simple). Why anyone ever bought one to drive on the road is beyond me. Do they still make them?

It does rain a bit more than most places due to it's hills. I don't think I have ever seen it sunny in Manchester, but I haven't been often in the summer.

i live in derby (below the peak district) and we don't get that much rain. manc's rain is largely from the sea. liverpool is far rainier.

on the 3 occasions i've been to manc it's always been sunny and hot. but that was probably a coincidence

Its quite sunny here now, its windy (which is rare in Manchester) but its not raining. I am annoyed as I saw some statistics that showed Manchester dosn't rain more than a lot of other cities in the UK, but I can't find them now

Rainfall in millimetres:
London 799
Manchester 810
Leeds 692.8
Oxford 650
York 639
Glasgow 951
Durham 651
Hull 649.5
Edinburgh 638

So Glasgow is the only one I can see with a higher rainfall. I don't know about how accurate these statistics are, though.

Not much worse than London then, I am sure the ones I said Nottingham was pretty much on par with Manchester. Nottingham is not listed there. Also I think it rains more in Liverpool.

Nottingham is 707mm - quite high. I don't know Liverpool's but Everton's is 756mm. Apparently Cardiff has a massive 1048mm; that must be one of the highest.

I suppose this does not prove the frequency of the rain, just the amount. Maybe it all falls in a short space of time rather than always being drizzly.

*haha* yeah I always say there's something wrong if it's not raining in Cardiff
