Why bother with a post grad? Are they even worth it? Have your say! 26-10-2016

k=20, k=4 FAM
Sound fam same
Me and some friends got the radius to be root 34 not 65.
I also got root 34

Messed up the integration but the rest was fine. Looking back at it the question seems so easy >.<
same i got all the numbers wrong and so i dunno will i get any method marks?
what did you guys get for the translation? (0.5 , - 41/4) ?
That's what I got
5. (Original post by Poppy1098)
I also got root 34
I got it too! Don't really get how it could be anything else!
6. It should be 0.5 and positive 41/4 for the translation, shouldn't it?

I got root 34 for the radius as well.. I'm so confused.. The centre of the circle was given as (5,-3) so (x-5)^2 + (y+3)^2 = 25+9 .....
The method you talk about is when you have something like ax^2+bx+cy^2+dy=k
I almost did the same thing but then when I plugged in coordinates and realised it was wrong I saw you had to find the radius from A and C and it gave you sqrt65.

9. What was the area under the curve as a fraction

Exactly!! Because -25-9 is -34??
Also what did you get for CT?
11. (Original post by ella-1997)
Im pretty sure i used the discriminant (b2- 4ac=0 as it was a tangent and therefore only one solution) and it produced the quadratic equation k^2 + 24 +80 or something along those lines and then just factorised it
thats exactly what i did

Just under a week to go... How's everyone doing?
Why was the numbers so hard on c1 don't they know it's non calculator 😳
13. Almost thought 45 x 7=305 :P Would've messed up surds if I didn't realise than 290/4=/= integer.
14. How are you guys getting root 34 for the radius?? I got root 65 by using Pythagoras to find the length of the centre to the point they gave us...

root 34 people, what did you get for the length CT?
15. I'm pretty certain radius is root 65. Then for the last question, you use pythag, 65 + 16 = 81, square root of that gives you a solid 9.
16. Yes, unless we are both wrong
17. (Original post by Poppy1098)

Think I got root 50! Think even if we did get root 34 wrong we should get error carried forward for the later question!!
18. (Original post by cerealisyummy)
Yeap, I got that as well
I left it as -2+-root10 i think, but from what I remember i didn't divide it because if you half root 10 you get root2.5 which isn't an integer
19. To find k did anyone else use b^2-4ac=0 ?
20. (Original post by Ordo)
I wasn't sure so I put translation through (0.5, ?)
I think I would get 2/3 marks
Igot -0.5 because I sketched the curves and it moved left
