Hey! I havn't got a horse (so i'm of no use to your actual thread lol) but i am goin to nottingham in september (fingers crossed) n i'm just here to recruit more people to our nottingham facebook group, "nottingham vets 07", so yep if you're not already a member already, join up if you have a facebook account

And on the topic of horses, could anybody who does bring a horse teach me how to ride in their spare time, i've never ridden a horse

can you take a horse to any of the other unis?
You can, but you won't be able to spend much time with them. When you're working 9-5 almost every day of the week, it makes even socialising with people outside the course difficult. I wouldn't recommend bringing your horse with you, you won't be able to exercise it nearly enough and it just isn't fair on the animal, unless you pay for someone else to look after it for you, which, when you can afford to have a horse, i suppose is pretty easy.

Most people i know who have horses left them at home and simply borrow horses to ride from the uni riding club once a week at most.

Nottingham it would be fine, livery is on site and v cheap compared to some places. Plus with all the other vet people on site, if your in a rush ull have plenty of people to give you a hand. Accomodation is literally a 2 minute walk away from the stables, if that. People have done it this year and handled it fine.
Not too sure about the turn out, but SB is in the middle of fields so theres plenty of space!
As for riding, as its in the countryside theres loads of places you can go, i imagine there will be a spare field where you could jump and stuff, cant remember seeing a sand school.
And saying if theres times, its basically up to you, how you organise our time. Some people have time for a job and fit that in fine! So if you ride instead of having a job, you'll have plenty of time to excercise your horse. And if you have a particularly busy day, im sure there will be plenty of friends around that would lunge/ride your horse for you to keep it fit and healthy. And like i said, you will always have ready made helpers for feeding/mucking out/grooming etc in the form of all your vet friends.
The only thing they do ask at notts is that if you bring your horse, you allow it to be used for study groups. Nothing hideous, just things like anatomy and locomotion, taking pulses, that sort of thing so it wouldnt be stressful to most horses but you may have to consider that in case you have a particularly nervous horse.
In all, as long as you manage your time properly, its perfectly doable! Well as long as you can afford it! :p:
When I went to SB they were just finishing building a lovely indoor arena.

The issue I would be most worried about if considering bringing my horse is money. I'm already shakey on how I'll managed accomodation/ food ect: So unless you have a good source of income or somebody who'll pay for you I'd think carefully about it.

The indoor school was really small, but one of the girls there said that there was all year turnout available at the mo as there werent that many horses there.

Im sure you would find there will be lots of people that would be willing to help out some days in exchange for rides if you wanted some days off

This is what the website has to say...

"Would it be possible to bring a horse?
Yes, there are many students who bring their horse. There are a large number of private livery yards that meet a range of requirements. However, the Vet School has its own 12 stables available for student horses. These are £30/week for DIT livery including some haylage and chippings. SB Guild has a Riding Club which runs regular competitions, and there is also a Riding Club and a Polo Club at the main campus. The competition facilities and hacking around Sutton Bonington are excellent."

Rolling on floor laughing my ass off!

It is a hysterical question for all us poor folk who don't have our own horses and are more concerned about if we can take a Wok to uni!
