Anyone been involved with the student radio at their current/old univerisity?

I'm thinking about getting involved in it when I go back in September. Is it fun/worth it? Ideally if I did get involved I'd like to get a late-ish night slot and just play 'specialist' music, I'm not looking to do some huge midday show. And yes, I am aware that there probably wouldn't be that many listeners (if any) but from an outside perspective it looks pretty fun and is something I'd consider doing after uni.

What's your experience with it, would you recommend doing it, and has it been useful for anything outside of your degree?
