My friend, you need to understand you're a man so there will always be that certain attraction for women.
You may at first genuinely want to be their friend, but eventually, it will lead to something more and you won't want to be just friends. You speaking to them and engaging them in a friendly manner, will lead to closeness and fondness then she'll be on your mind and you on hers and this may lead you to breaking your religious commitment.
My best advice for you is forget about being friends with a girl because 95% of guys who are friends with girls, have had a dirty thought about them, in some point during their friendship.

"Repel the thought, for if you don’t, it becomes an idea. So repel the idea; for if you don’t it will become a desire. So fight against that (desire), for if you don’t, it will become a determination and a passion. And if you don’t repel that, it will become an action. And if you don’t replace it with its opposite, it will become a constant habit. So at that point, it will be difficult for you to change it."

    Ibn Qayyim

Does your religion specify anything about males?
