basically, when the budgeted costs were for 4500 units, but the actual costs were for 4680, so didn't you have to divide the budgeted costs by 4500 then times them by 4680? thats what they did on the past paper questions

Yes you needed to flex the budget, the gave us cost for 4500 units so you had to divide by 4500 then times by 4680 to get the figure for the variance. This is what I did to get my cost to cost reconciliation to balance
