According to the solution of this question given in the book the mass of the particle is irrelevant to the work done. Is this true or have they made a mistake?

In this question it is true because it says the sphere is in a "horizontal plane". This means that no work is done against gravity because the height of the sphere doesn't change, so the work done only depends on the charge :smile:
