Explain how vegetable oils are extracted from plants?

The seeds of the plant are crushed and the water is removed by distillation, leaving vegetable oil seperate.

Thats what im assuming as well, could be on + and - of extracting metals, but they are both similar

It could also be on polymers, limestone cycle or early atmosphere / miller urey experiment

Or maybe they'll be nice and throw in something really easy as the six marker such as subatomic particles and their relative charges and masses (just like the B1 - that was quite an easy 6 marker)

The seeds are crushed, steam distilled and pressed. First press is done cold and is better quality.

Does anyone know if we need to know the catalyst for reacting steam with ethene?

It's a phosphoric acid catalyst if you need to know

What do hydrocarbons contain (2 marks)?

only hydrogen and carbon bonds and are either saturated (singular bond) or unsaturated (double carbon-carbon bond)

Explain how vegetable oils are extracted from plants?

nuts, seeds or fruits

crushed and pressed first
water + other impurities removed

distillation of a mixture of the plant material with water
oil separated from water afterwards

Good suggestions, but last years 6 marker was on the atmosphere so im not sure that will come up again.

I think you're wrong. The oil you get from crushing the seeds is added to water and then evaporated. It is then condensed and seeing as oil is less dense than water as well as oil being unable to dissolve in water, 2 layers are made with the oil layer at top and the water layer at the bottom. This can separated just by carefully pouring out the oil.

Firstly why would you add the oil to water in first place? Im pretty sure the water is distilled and dont have to mention anything at all about denseness its not a big complicated process.

What is the Primordial Soup theory?

THe theory that the solution of amino acids (building blocks of life) led to development of molecules and organisms. This was caused by the reaction (with lightning) with the gases in the earths early atmosphere.
