Know or have knowledge of the key quotes and how they link to the various themes of the play. You also need to say why the writer has used this/made a character say a certain thing, what effect the writer wants to have on the reader. Exploring different interpretations of scenes/characters will get you the higher grades and so does a little bit of own knowledge (I think you get marks for O/K on AQA).

Make flash cards on two quotes of each character portraying a particular theme. For example:

*One side* - Give 2 quotes relating to Lennie about the theme of discrimination.

    *Second side*
    1. "He ain't bright but he's a hell of a good worker"
    2. "You crazy bastard.. you think I'd let you carry your own work card?"
    An Inspector Calls
*One side* - Give 2 quotes relating to Sybil and the theme of responsibility.

    *Second side*
    1. "You turned her away - yes, and you killed her"
    2. "I'll tell you what I told her..go and look for the father of the child. It’s his responsibility."
