What are the pro's and cons of university accommodation?

I'm going on a exchange to Dundee this fall and now I'm looking for a student room. I've read allot about the university accommodation but i've find it reader expansive.
My question is, what are the pro's and cons of university accommodation?
and is there a better cheaper way to get a room?
and what is more fun or more social to do?
