Re: UAL AccommodationIt's fine, it's just not as popular, and it's never full, I dun think, but it's more than fine... the rooms just aint en-suite...(Original post by rhiWICKED)
is anyone going to walden street?
i haven't seen anyone mention it so i'm now scared that its some kind of hell hole.... -
Re: UAL Accommodationim doing my foundation at cheslea. was a bit gutted about being offered EH, but like you, ive done some research on it and i think were pretty lucky! i havnt seen EH but i visited furzedown last year cus i was doing a summer course and it was soo awful. where are you doing your foundation? and where are you from? ooo also i wanted to change my move in date too, beacuse the letter said like the day before the start date! when enrolement is like a week before?.. im also going to try and see ewen henderson at some point, if possible before i accept the offer.(Original post by helen*_*)
Miso, I have to get a C at A level in one subject which i'll definitely manage (not trying to sound pompous or anything..)
Having looked more at stuff about EH, i'm preety pleased i'm going to somewhere with an ensuite, and Iceland is just down the street, its right by the tube (if i can afford it!) and very close to sainsburies too.
im thinking of getting a job at home maybe to sainsburys or iceland, and then i might be allowed to transfer to the one in new cross when i get there which would be very convenient.
Hi apricotsalongthestreet
where are you doing your foundation?
rhiWICKED, i thought from the photos that Walden street looked the nicest, and as there are only 9 houses, i'd imagine there is a great sense of community with everyone. plus its on a private road, so security wise its good, and also right by the hospital - althoguh you might be plagued with sirens, i don't know.
I've been on google earth for ages pinpointing where everything is, and i've found most of the accomodation places i think, which will help me to visualise where i'm going since i have a terrible sense of direction.
Anyway, i'm coming to London for a couple of days to see the Antony Gormley exhibition at the Hayward, and to look around ewen henderson and wherever my sis (hopefully!) gets accomodation so i can get my bearings!
P for photographer - what is your management like for moving dates etc? because i put on the application i wanted to move in on the 2nd Spetember, and it says on my letter the 17th, and i have to register a week before that. I know it says i can move in earlier if i want to, but is 2 weeks earlier too much or will i be allowed?

Re: UAL Accommodationyeeep got a letter with lots of stuff about the place and being a student etc xxx(Original post by vaughanyboy)
I applied for Mana Ash House, Walden Street then Brooke Hall. Still waiting for any response.
Those who have their places, did you get letters in the post? I just ask because I remember the form saying something about email, but I'd rather get a proper letter. -
Re: UAL AccommodationOh, welcome to Don Gratton... when are you moving in, mate? The area is fabs, very lively, not the safest area in London, but it's very young and arty, so to speak... It's round the corner to the famous Whitechapel Gallery and Brick Lane... It's full of joy. The hall itself, it's considered one of the best halls we have in UAL. ppl are very nice working there, the manager and the deputy are great ppl, and of cause other staff as well...(Original post by Lycanthropy)
I was chuffed to recieve an email from shaftesbury housing informing me that i had a place at Don Gratton, havn't had a letter of any kind tho.
Does anyone know what the areas like round there? -
Re: UAL Accommodation

Re: UAL Accommodation
hi, thought i'd let you know that i've just phoned up UAL housing who told me to ring Ewen Henderson which i did, about moving in earlier than the 16th September since thats only a day before my foundation course starts, and i need to get there at least a week beofrehand for enrolment. I was told I can't. The contracts last year were for 52 weeks (whereas ours are 51 weeks) and therefore all the students this year will only be moving out 2 days beforehand, so I can't move in earlier. The person at Ewen Henderson said I'd have to ring back UAL housing and ask if there were any free rooms in other residencies that I could stay in for a week or two which I think is stupid - i dont want to be carting my stuff around london by myself. Has anybody else tried ringing up? On my acceptance letter and info about housing, it says enrolment week is a week before the 17th, and then it is a good idea to move in a week before that, which is obviously only for the lucky people who got a 42 week contract

rebecca - why did some people get a 42 week contract? -
Re: UAL Accommodation
it just depends on the accomodation - standard rooms at manna ash are 42 week contracts, whereas studios are 51. Don gratton and furzedown are 42 weeks, but the rest have a mixture. Normally it seems the standard rooms are 42 and the studios are 51, but not for ewen henderson and walden street. i think whoever wrote the contracts for 52 weeks last year should be sacked. Its obvious the housing don't have anything to do with the colleges otherwise they should have realised that we, doing a foundation course, needed to start earlier.

Re: UAL Accommodation
oh my god what is all this about not being allowed into ewen henderson until whatever date that was? i forgot lol, iv already planned to move on the 3rd sept, i dnt remember seeing anything saying we couldnt? where did u see that?!
also surely if weve got a 51 week contract we should be allowed in BEFORE people with a 47? cus weve payed for more time right? or am i just being stupid? arrrrhghggghg
ALSO- rebecca im doing foundation at CSM like ur sis :] where is she staying in the end? i didnt even apply for ewen henderson court but its a really nice area and im really happy bout it now cus my first choice was JMH n wen i went to check out the area was really put off and didnt want 2 go there. bathrooms! i need one all to my self :] so am very happy with that its cool to speak to other people in the same situations and btw i was thinkin if thers alot of people goin to EHC doin foundation then theyr not gona be able to give us all extra housing for a week or 2 surely so some things gotta be done !! fingers crossed anyway

Re: UAL Accommodation
my sis phoned up and the woman said she should have received her letter a week ago!!! but shes got into ewen henderson, so thats good news for moving down, otherwise it wouldve been much more difficult! we can't decide if we wanna be in the same flat or not - although i doubt we actually get any choice in the matter lol!
When i phoned up ewen henderson directly the woman said that other students will be living there up to two days before we can move in (as last year the rooms were rented out for the entire 52 weeks), so they seem to be applying that to everyone, when im postive most of the rooms will be empty. I have read in the contract that for £50 you are allowed to terminate the contract early, as long as you have found a UAL student to move in, then they can pay the rent for the time that they are there. I suppose if we phone up at the end of july/early august we may be able to find out if any students want to terminate their contract early, and then we could have a chance of getting a room there for 1 or 2 weeks, although i think the tenant may want us to pay the extra £50 as well...
I don't know if any of you have facebook, but theres a group on there for everyone going this year: http://hs.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2409398237 so we're all updating each other on any news we've got.
xx
where are you doing your foundation?
