English Literature Fail

Hey guys,

I sat my English Literature paper today and I'm feeling really bad about it.

I chose the question on conflict and I elaborated on the conflict within the characters, the impending warfare, the conflict between the classes and Eric's conflict between himself and his family.

Is it bad that I said that Eric's drinking habits could illustrate his detachment from the socialist doctrine as he is evidently uninhibited my the prospect of tainting his family's reputation and how as a result, he's more receptive to The inspectors overall message of societal unity? Feel like I've messed up.

I also only had 20 minutes to write the Of Mice and Men section and I I started talking utter rubbish about how the patriarchy and economic instability of the 1930s makes it impossible for the American dream to be attainted.

So done w life lol

This sounds really good?! I'm sure you'll do really well, I can tell just by how you phrased your comment !! I also had the same problem with timing for OMAM and got a bit carried away with AIC quite frankly..

Talked about 3 characters, instead of talking about 1 or two of them. Will it be a detterent??gosh i hope not,my third character was most devoloped as well lol
not sure what book, you did for Section A but the point you made for OMAM is relevant it should get you some marks still dw about it, just try and do your best on the next exam
Aw cheers mate and omg yes!! I'm mad I didn't consider my timing because the OMAM question was so easy and I could have written so much more. I'm going to learn from it and hopefully do better on my poetry exam.

Thanks for your feedback by the way, I feel so much better!

So did I, I ended up just shoving a whole load of context in! I wrote right up until they told us to put our pens down.

Although it may technically be better to talk about one or two, doing three isn't going to stop you from getting a high grade! They just don't want you to talk about every single character as it makes the essay less focussed and to the point I guess. Plus, in english its a positive markscheme.. it's about what you have done not what you haven't
I can't even understand what you wrote so it must be a solid A*
No seriously it was so bad I cried afterwards hahaha

AIC was ok but part A and B was meh....

Only analysed three points for A and I paniced and waffled for B only to add more relevant stuff with Asterixs.

I stated something along the lines of "It is fate for their American dreams to dissolve and that they can never achieve their aspirations. Steinbeck does this to that they are always dreaming when actually they are stuck in an eternal nightmare".

Dunno if that is right or if that would save me anything

Tbh I thought my first ever English Lit exam was crap, left maybe 35 mins for the second poetry section you were supposed to spend an hour on (or maybe an hour 20, can't remember the advice..) got full UMS in the end

Given the time constraints you had though maybe it really didn't go that well but the points you made should be worth a lot of marks even if your analysis was a bit light. Basically, if it sounds impressive, the examiners tend to like it, and you'd probably get at least a B if there's limited analysis, if there in fact wasn't probs at least an A..

Examiners try and do everything they can so students get the marks they deserve, the indicator box is just there to help the examiners and make the process quicker, I doubt they would completely discard your work as long as it is clear what question you were answering! That's my opinion on this anyway

It should be obvious which question you answered. Did you put the title of the question or put a number in the margin or something? If so, probably will be alright. If not, I still reckon they'd clock it and not be that harsh but that's just a hunch..
