    Hey Guys;

    Well, I'll be applying for my PGCE next year and was wondering if you're allowed to use the bursary you can get to pay for your tuition fee given it comes in monthly increments?
    Will be applying for a PGCE Secondary Education With Chemistry. =)

    While you could put the money towards tuition, given you get the bursary in monthly installments and would need to pay your tuition fees in larger chunks (either 9k upfront or 3k per term, I'm unsure which) this may be difficult to do in practice unless you have a decent amount of funds available to pay now know it'll be recouped later.

    There must be a way of doing this, but I am unsure due to the reasons the previous poster gave.

    However, you are also entitled to a student loan, which is probably the best loan you'll ever get (as the repayments are low and you don't have to pay anything back if you're not earning). You could pay for your fees using a tuition fee loan and put the remainder of your bursary in savings.

    My uni have said you can't as the bursary starts in mid October and if you're paying your own tuition fees you have to pay the full 9k upfront at the start of September.

    As myrtille said, you can always put 9k away from your bursary to pay off the loan, though IMO it may make more financial sense to save that money for a deposit on a house etc because the SLC loans are the best you'll ever have.

    Just to back up what others have said, a friend of mine wanted to do this as he couldn't get the loan and they wouldn't let him. It seems strange to me some of the bursaries are exactly the tuition fee, you would also think the government would want the money up front!
