Living in Europe for 6mnths

As of June 28th I will be living in Germany for 6months. My contract with vodafone expires in November, but I would rather change my phone and/or network before I leave the UK mainly because I would like to benefit from a good camera and better 3g/4g access to find help my way around. I also need to think about the the best sim or contract. I don't know whether I could go for a 6mnth europe sim then start a contract when I am back in the UK, or if I could get decent contract which would take care of living abroad and the UK in one agreement? Any ideas would be great!
