Best uni for film school?

Hi, I'm trying to decide which unis I should apply to , and I could use a lot of help! I want do become a director and move to the USA, but first I'd love to study in the UK. Preferably in London. These are the uni's that I've found more interesting for undergraduate BA studies, what are your opinions on them?

-Central film school-- it isn't a uni, but I find the course very interesting, and it is only a 2 year BA which makes it more challenging, but is much better for me personally. It is also in center London, which is a plus. The course is intensive and quite practical, and the classes are small.

-University of Westminster-- the course is 50:50 theory:tongue:ractical, and I find that quite good actually since I don't mind theory  I've read mixed things about the student life there, some say it's a good area but others say its boring and plain, and it is in London, but not in the centre.

-Kingston University London-- the Knights Park Campus seems amazing, but I couldn't get much information about the student life, the area itself or about the course.

-University of Roehampton-- the campus also seems very nice, I don't really know the area istelf or student life. The course seems ok, not my favourite for what I've read, but still enjoyable.

I've also heard about many others, such as Bournemouth, Lancashire, Leeds, etc, but since they are not in London I'm concerned about the connections to the industry and also the student life.

Thanks for the help!

Hi Mariapcosta!

My name is Patricia and I'm a current student at BU and also an ambassador!

BU has a FANTASTIC reputation for anything media related, the department have won awards such as the Queen's Anniversary Prize (we even had the Queen visit us for that) and others! We have strong links with the industry as well, we have had students working on animations in big movies (ever heard or Avatar or Gravity to name a few)

I understand that it is not London, coming from the city myself I know the certain buzz it has. However, maybe a second look at BU might persuade you to give it a chance and then do some real digging.

In the meantime, if you do have any questions, feel free to message me

Good Luck!
Patricia

I went to Bournemouth and left - awful university!
It's worth pointing out that there are TWO universities in Bournemouth with excellent reputations for Film (which is why the town has such good industry links) - BU and Arts University Bournemouth.

The Film courses are both quite different - the BU course is taught by a media and journalism based film school and includes a lot of TV production content as well as just film. The AUB course is very much more focused on film (and is taught alongside performance makeup, animation and special effects, modelmaking, costume and acting courses - so you're in an environment where putting together more cinematic productions is a standard part of the course).

Hey mariapcosta,

Have you consider Ravensbourne as part of your option?
We are base in London  next to the o2!
We're about 5 minutes walk away from the station.

One of the film courses we do is BA (Hons) Digital Film Production degree.
There are others but it depends on which you would like. (Click Here for our website)

Goodluck with your choice!

Hi Mariapcosta!

I hope you had a good weekend. My name is Danny and I'd just like to briefly draw your attention to Met Film School and what we offer. The institutions you've mentioned certainly show you are on the right path; glad to hear your research is coming along well.

Met Film School offers two/three year options for BA (Hons) Practical Filmmaking - a fairly practical course that provides an understanding of all on-set roles, from the early project stages of screenwriting and producing, to directing, all the way through to postproduction. Our students are able to test the water in all different areas, before picking a route to which they can specialise.

The school's ethos is aimed towards making our graduates employable and we actively strive towards always improving our industry connections. We are based at London's Ealing Studios, we have an in-house film production agency and a dedicated team who bring in guest speakers and organise masterclasses - in other words, we are part of the industry.

Lastly, we are well connected to the city via the Central Line, and Ealing itself is currently experiencing a lot of exciting development (new cinema, Elizabeth Line), making it a desirable option for future students.

All our contact information is on the header of our website - feel free to get in touch if you want more info

Good luck!
Danny
