Quadratic inequalities (is this correct?)

Is the attached correct or should it be x ≥ -5 as it is the area above the graph that we are looking at?

No, what you did in the paper is correct.
As Droneon said.

x≤−5 or x≥1x\leq -5\text{ or }x \geq 1

You're looking for the x values that correspond to y being greater than, or equal to, 0.
