Alpha testing is performed by the developer using simulated data.

    What is stimulated data?

Alpha testing may also be known as the "acceptance testing". Acceptance testing is done using simulated data, which means the data is not user interaction-dependent. (it might be a file with ready commands etc). The beta testing is what brings the actual interaction with user. But acceptance testing just shows that the system works , theoretically, how it should work according to its predefined specification.
So basically, simulated data is a data predefined by the developer (eg. changes in the aerodynamics, if it is a flight simulator), which is executed without user's interaction (so it is not random events - dependent), used to check if the basic aspects of the system (game engine or whatever) work.
