I've done a summer placement in my first year with engineering firm and now sponsored by them throughout uni with a promise of a graduate job 28k starting.

I've secured a summer placement and a year placement for the current year and I’m not sure whether to take the year placement (24k) or the summer placement again.
Without taking the year out the company has already promised a graduate job after however I’m unsure if that’s the career path I want to take. Either site engineering or going into finance however I haven’t done any experience in finance, so don’t know if I’d like it.
    Some Year out points:
-Allow me to do a year working in that field to see if I like it. To see if that’s what I want to do
-Allot of my friends are talking a year out to do a placement, even people in my course, friends that could help me in my course.
-As I’m sponsored I can’t do a summer placement with another firm i.e. finance, however If I work July to July, I can get a finance internship for the summer without comprising my sponsorship.
Some reasons to just do the summer
-pointless year in the sense it doesn’t account for anything apart from DIS
-get degree over with however without help from friends
-earn more doing the same job after I graduate.

What benefits are there from taking a year out compared with just doing summers?
What do you guys reckon I should do?!
    Thank you in advance

Your degree should be your own work anyway, so your points about not having help from your friends aren't valid.

To me, it would be stupid to do a year long placement now and postpone graduation by a year when you could work over the summer, graduate a year earlier and then do the very same job after graduation for more money.
