I find myself doing this if I'm interested in someone who isn't all that but they're insecure about their appearance or some other aspect of their being. I'll want to say things that I know will stroke their ego even if I don't necessarily believe it's the case.

    Do you this is wrong?

I often find myself doing the same! It's a tricky one and I suppose it depends on what you believe to be wrong... whether you think making them happy justifies the lie or whether giving them false hope etc makes it wrong.

If it makes someone feel better I personally do think it's okay, especially considering those that might be e.g. less attractive, might not hear it often. As long as false compliments aren't given out in a malicious way then I think it's perfectly fine

I don't think it's right to pay somebody untrue compliments because you are being dishonest from the start. The compliment itself may not be true in your eyes but it may be in somebody else's. It's the hidden agenda from the beginning that's unsettling.

If you want to compliment somebody there is usually something positive you can always say about them, you just need to identify that in your own eyes first.

I would want to be with somebody that did think I was all that, not just pretended to, so yes it would bother me and I think it's wrong.

A compliment is fine, false compliments are a waste of time imo becayse it means the giver is also being disingenuous.
