Land economy- personal statement, fitz or homerton

Hi I have read all the other land economy threads but have some more questions... if anyone can help me it would be much appreciated...

OK:
1) i am applying for entry 2008 (applying post-ALevel) for le at either fitz or homerton, but economics at other unis. I have written my PS but I'm worried because I cant get anything about law and geography in there because im not doing it anywhere else... however I have geared my personal statement towards development economics so would that be ok? Did anyone at cam now apply for econ everywhere else?

(before you say am i applying for le because econ is harder to get into- i am NOT! i really want to do law and economics but i do want a well recognised degree so i dont want to lower the standard of uni i apply to)

2) fitz or homerton? at the mo im thinking fitz...

3) what reading did you do before interview?

4) Im expecting AAAB or AABB (English lit, Economics, Maths and Politics) + AEA distinction in English. (plus general studies A2 A grade). Gap year got a great internship with KPMG in tax, and doing conservation project in Kenya. GCSEs 3A*s and 7As. Do I have a chance at getting in? I am not attention seeking I just want a realistic reply. My grades will not be the best I could have got but I have had personal problems. Do they make allowances for this or do you think it sounds pathetic to mention it?? I am under the impression that unless a close relative dies there are no such things as extenuating circumstances...

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated

Thanks

How about posting your personal statement questions in the PS forum?

yer go for homerton.fitz and homerton are the same distance from the town centre, but homerton looks nicer and u can walk on grass.lol.

Homerton's actually quite a bit further away from town than Fitz (about half the distance again), and out on its own (whilst Fitz has Churchill and New Hall near by).

I think you can probably walk on Fitz grass, its hardly a stuffy town college...

and ignore pretty much everything History_Boys said -the bit about him applying could well be true but the rest is nonsense. Fitz is not an old college and as such doesn't even have any of the 'problems' or elitism, etc, one might associate with the town colleges. Yes Homerton is newer, but Fitz only became a college in the 1960's so its not really relevant here. Homerton is also considerably further from town than Fitz and from the people I know at Homerton seems quite insular (although apparently they spend some time socialising with the nearby 6th form)

OP - don't worry so much about the personal statement, the tutors will recognise that their course is somewhat unique and as such will expect most personal statements to be geared towards other courses.

Homerton! Homoton! Homotown!

Apply there, it's great :P.

1. I applied for Land Economy and applied for Economics (and Economics & Management) at other universities.

2.

3. Reading before interview - The economist and newspapers. You just need to be up to date on current affairs really.

4. Grades - I got 3A*, 4A, 2B and I got an offer so you should have a good chance.

Thanks very much for replying. The thing is I would actually prefer to go to a traditional college but I don't think I would get in there. Out of the two Fitz is closer and has other colleges nearby which is a big plus, but Homerton definitely does look nicer.

donaldduck which college do you go to and what A levels did you do??

MC REN which college are you at?

If I get the grades I will be going to Robinson. Just have to spend the rest of the summer in an anxious state!
Alevels - Geography, Economics & Computing. I also did Religious Studies at AS level.

No. I'm closing this thread as OP hasn't been online for five years.
