I'm about to move into a house for 3rd year with another music student (as am I) and 2 PHD students, a bit older, studying physics and arabic.
As a real musician through and through, who practices a huge amount (which also creates some noise) and who takes his subject very seriously, I would prefer in an ideal world to be with people who study my subject too (1st world problem obviously, and the most important thing is that people get on and everyone is safe and happy and compromises in order to get along).
But I really feel that with performing arts subjects the situation is a bit different; they thrive off close personal interaction and collaboration. the department is also super-cliquey, which i don't like but sort of have to live with, and I feel not living with other music students might harm my social status in the department.
The alternative would be moving out with my freind matt and just going in with another 2 music students. Matt finds music quite difficult and takes a lot of external modules; I imagine he has wanted to switch degree course many times.
I'm really sorry to bother you with this, and I sort of know the answer already; stick with my current situation because there is no real problem. But if anyone has any thoughts or advice, please share them with me.
Housing arrangements issue; advice wanted
