Legal Secretary courses

Hi there,

I am looking to take a Legal Secretary course, and am looking at either taking a CILEx or ILSPA (The Institute of Legal Secretaries and PAs) course - does anyone have any insight into which is better, and/or which is better received by law firms?

Many thanks,
Laura
First of all Laura, this is a very smart move imo and soemthing I wish I had done.

I dont know which is the best, but having looked at the website, then I would prefer ILSPA, but I would compare the syllabus and costs etc first.

There are two ways to go about finding the answer as to value.

1. Look at job adverts and see which legal sec jobs require it. I'd imagine most just require experience.
2. Contact the recruitment agents who deal directly and ask their opinion about the relative merits of either. Contact several who have the level of job you want as some are bound to say rubbish or not needed.

Both those ways should hive you a better real life snapshot as to how the qualifications work in real life as opposed to the sales pitch by the respective institutions.
It will also get you some good legal experience.
