I have just finished my second year and really did not do as well as I expected. I also had to write one of my assignments in less than 24 hours due to my laptop fully breaking. My grades are also quite varied - some are great and some are terrible.

I'm averaging at 63.6 for my second year which is 25% of my final degree classification.

To achieve a first I would have to average at 72.13 in my final year.

Is this possible and does anybody have any tips for pulling up my grades?

Think 72/73 is definitely manageable depending on how much work you put in next year.

I would need to get 78% to get a First lol.

i got 63% in second year and just got my final year results with an overall first.

check with your university - it may well be the case that you only need to get a certain percentage of modules to be a first and they may lower the grade boundaries. you may not need to get 72% average in final year to get an overall first.

oh, and unless you're a genius, you have to work incredibly hard to get a first. its relatively easy to get to 2:1 standard, something like 75% of all law degrees are 2:1s. its so much harder to go from getting 62 to 70.

if you are doing essays, read the cases in full and all academic literature you can get your hands on. for exams, you must master all the basics, and go well beyond what the textbooks teach you. whenever there is an important point of law or uncertainty, get on westlaw and work closely with the academic literature. also keep your cool in the exam.
