Have a choice between Philosophy and English?

I have the choice of either Philosophy or English at UoN and was just wondering if any students of either subject could advise me which is more enjoyable or whether you've had any unpleasant experiences due to making assumptions about the course prior to starting? I love things about both subjects... but there's obviously a massive difference from having a leisurely interest in something, to studying it full time and writing 20,000 word dissertations.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Why not do a joint degree in both?
