I start work in August and I'm reviewing my options. I'm going to be working in London and I'll be on £43k in my first year and £46k in my second year. I'd really like to live on my own in a studio flat around the central London area but it is obviously very expensive. What figure, including all bills and council tax (but not food etc.), is reasonable to spend on rent each month? Is spending over £1,000 crazy? I need to live around the central London area because I'll be working late hours most days and would rather have a short journey home (or a bit outside I guess if it's close to a station but then I'd need to pay around £1.2-£1.5k on travel each year).
