Yes, because of course we were a completely backward country before that. We didn't fight for women's rights before the EU even existed. We didn't help our neighbours in the war effort during their time of need. We didn't adopt a socially liberal attitude towards homosexuality much before a lot of other European countries, some of which are still very homophobic. We didn't bring about the foundation of the welfare state. We didn't realise that people need healthcare regardless of income and bring in the NHS.(Original post by JordanL_)

No. None of that happened. What an utterly backwards nation we'd have been without the EU bureaucrats in Brussels and their 600+ regulations for toasters.
