Anyone else hate parties?

Poll

Do you like parties?

I hate them, I really do. I hate the loud music, I'm too shy to dance and really talk to new people, I hate the taste of alcohol. I spend every moment checking the time and wishing it were over. I don't understand why my friends enjoy them so much. I would much rather be at home reading a good book. I'm 18, by the way.

Nah depends on the type of host, type of party. Can't really explain it.

Like some hosts either have a **** house, **** vibe, **** music, **** invites, **** ideas, **** food, **** drinks, **** timing
One or more of those

Others have really good of one or more of the above. Dunno. Best thing is to go somewhere if you know the host and like them. Some times parties get crashed and a bunch of +1s or randoms come in and the host can't control it. Sometimes they just won't calm it because they wanna be "epic." Tbf I don't like those, normally I leave or end up getting it fights.

I prefer going to bbq's and parties I'm invited to by my actual mates because I know I'ma be there enjoying the people there, and knowing a couple new people might show. And so the host knows the music and food we like, who not to invite.

If I'm going as a +1 or just randomly crashing :colone: then yea I'd expect to feel outta place. If you keep feeling outta place at parties you musta not been directly invited in the 1st place or you don't even like/know the host but were invited. If that happens invite all your mates anyway that's what I do

So basically I've never felt outta place parties :h:

Just cause you don't get invited to any...

Told her I was thinking it's somewhere along those lines tbh
I completely agree with you. I think the main reason I don't enjoy parties is because I don't drink alcohol (I'm not sure why I don't drink, it's just a personal choice). Because I don't drink, I feel responsible for my friends and end up looking after them all night when they're running out into the road or throwing up and passing out. If people didn't get get absolutely smashed then I'd probably enjoy them more but instead, like you, I spend every other minute checking my phone until it's time to go.

I wouldn't mind not get invited to any but the problem is I DO get invited, then feel obliged to go. It's as if people think I enjoy them :/

I don't enjoy the parties of anyone. Friends or otherwise. I do feel out of place but that's because I don't enjoy the activities that everyone else there is enjoying so loudly, even though everyone else there are usually my friends.

Thanks, good to hear I'm not alone. I wish I could make up an excuse to avoid all of them but that would look suspicious. I was sort of thankful that exams gave me a reason to not attend but that's gone now exams have finished.

I hate them too as I am socially inept :colone:

Well for one I was answering the thread title. I then briefly suggested if you don't like parties you're probably at the wrong one because I can't fathom not enjoying the company of your own friends. I never suspected that you however aren't a hermit crab of some sort either.

A lot of TSRians seem to have a very limited, television idea of what parties are. It's essentially a group of friends hanging out...has nothing to do with alcohol.

Sorry if I came across as ungrateful, your reply was very nice! And actually, I suspect the reason why I dislike parties is because I am a hermit at heart. My idea of fun literally surmounts to reading or a small gathering of close friends for a meal out. (Just to clarify, by parties I don't mean these small meet ups)

There's nothing wrong with your idea of fun , and yea I still meant for those big house parties. It can be over-whelming true but it normally has to do with the host. I've been to chill, organised but big house parties where people even had to go in the back garden or basement lol but like nothing got damaged and stuff, and no one got all alcohol fueled b/c like the host was no nonsense and kicked people out, was selective with who came in, and periodically addressed the house as a whole instead of leaving em to their own. I like those types of parties, controlled but still fun.

But again I can see if that still wouldn't sound ideal for you lol. Maybe it's because I've been going to parties since I was honestly like 11 and the 1st time I went without a parent or an older sibling was 12 :\ so I just like that stuff dunno lol

Yeah, to be honest even the controlled but still fun ones aren't, well, fun to me. I guess I may just be a boring person! Still, it's interesting to hear what other people do/don't enjoy and thanks for replying again.

Im not a huge fan.. Depends on the crowd in attendance. I don't think you are unique though sorry, many others dont enjoy social events

I hate them aswell. I know know it has a lot to do with my shyness. For my secondary school prom I literally just sat at the side and watched everyone.

Ugh. Not looking forward to prom this year at all. We had a prom at the end of year 11 and my memories of it are not pleasant. And this time, I expect it to be much the same but with alcohol, which I hate. So, it's going to be my worst nightmare. But I have to go because my friends are dragging me.

Exactly the same

At least, I assume I would be like that, if anyone were unwise enough to invite me to one

Aww I'll invite you to one. We can have a nice party thread on TSR. All the fun of a party... Without all the bits I dislike: the going out, the dancing, the music, the alcohol, the drunk people, the social awkwardness...

Not many, and not for a long time

:\ you at uni?
I love parties. I only go to parties where I know the people there so it's not awkward or anything. As for dancing, no one really focuses on other people - everyone's busy having fun.

Also, alcohol-wise not all parties have alcohol and even if there is some, you don't need to be obliged to drink it. I have a friend who always refuses to drink anything with alcohol.

I am incredibly shy meeting new people  but I'm never shy for some reason in parties? Probably because I want to have a good time and some of my close friends are always nearby.

Socialising's cool since you meet a lot of new people and learn things about them that you never expected it to be true.
Parties aren't always everyone's cup of tea.

What year are you in? Yeah, peer pressure can be annoying. I only went because my friends forced me to and I hated it.
