Scotland blow by Brussels as Nicola Sturgeon is told they must leave with the UK

SCOTLAND was dealt a huge blow by Brussels yesterday after chiefs ruled they can not remain in the EU when the UK leaves.Nicola Sturgeon called for “immediate discussions” to “protect Scotland’s place in the EU” after Brits backed Brexit on Thursday.

But it has now been revealed she has been told Scotland must leave with the rest of the UK and reapply if they want to remain in the EU, according to the Mail on Sunday.

Sturgeon has called for another Scottish independence referendum in the wake of Thursday’s vote to leave the EU.

She hoped to hold the referendum within two years and spark negotiations with Brussels for Scots to seamlessly remain in the union. But Brussels have put the brakes on Sturgeon’s plans saying all of the UK must leave, and Scotland must reapply if they wish to remain.

An EU briefing sent to MEPs by the European Parliamentary Research Service confirmed part of a member state can’t “remain in the EU if the member state itself withdraws”.

the European Parliamentary Research Service does not have the competence to decide about EU legal proceedings. In any case, the EP will make up its mind.

There are different views on this subject.
