Not all the time. Exceptional maths undergrads can get spots at banks, hedge funds and some prop shops.

What's the difference? They're both quant jobs? So they probably need a heavy maths background like a maths degree or something- not an econ and stats degree

Yeah that's true... But he could a financial math msc and then a PhD... That way he could have a chance of getting in
