People who supported Brexit - do you feel conned?

Germany has a £20 billion trade surplus with us, I could see it potentially, especially over something so insignificant to the major powers inside the EU.

It's not happening

Well, considering that one of the EU presidents apparently flipped a table after the results, maybe wait a little bit for them to calm down in Brussels first?
I'm not saying you should be worried.

It's just that sovereignty/law making, immigration and cost were the main issues in the referendum. So I'd imagine that most people would be annoyed.

Were they German? The Germans have been quite calm so far. But even they are now ruling out special treatment.

This is the wording on a Leave advert:

"Let's give our NHS the £350m the EU takes every week"

That's fairly certain. That's not saying we might give some money to the NHS.

Oh, okay, well, that's quite misleading, but tbh I didn't even see that and like I said I didn't vote on that. The problem with the NHS is this damn government underfunding it for whatever dubious reasons, not the EU.

No, this is exactly what we were told - short term economic downturn in exchange for sovereignty.

Animating contest of freedom > tranquility of servitude

Glad you can afford it

They don't feel conned, they're just retreating into further delusion. Just look at the comments on any article about the pound dropping or businesses moving out. They're still calling it scaremongering. Nothing they don't want to hear goes into their heads. As far as they're concerned, our economy will be at an all time high next week, the NHS will be thriving and unemployment will be at 0%.

No one has ever claimed anything remotely close to that. Furthermore the Leave Campaign fully expected short term negative financial effects. OBVIOUSLY leaving the EU would cause market turmoil. It's literally the most important political and economic decision in the world in decades. That fact literally proves diddly squat about whether or not Brexit will succeed.
What was scaremongering was Osborne's supposed punishment budget that was going to happen on Friday if we voted for Brexit, and the notion that we'd be the back at everyone's queue for trade deals. We've not dropped below France overnight in GDP rankings (that was a lie) and half the claims about companies moving staff abroad, like Morgan Stanley, have been lies (most are waiting and seeing).

I'm a working class student - you've mistaken my willing to endure hardship for ability to endure it.

We're not all cowards, mate.

I get what you're saying, I would be quite annoyed too if I had voted because I was worried about the above.

Yeah, it's a suggestion. The Leave campaign, as was constantly pointed out, was not a prospective government, and thus could not make commitments as to future spending. The point, constantly emphasised, was that control of that money should be brought back to parliament, and thus to the British electorate.

As for the £350m figure, nobody believed that. The Leave campaign just used it to bait the Remain campaign into talking constantly about how much money the British taxpayer sends to Brussels. Pack of incompetent boobs that they were, they fell for it -- not only repeatedly but almost constantly throughout the campaign.

Maybe when you have people dependent on you to provide for you'll learn what real bravery is.

What sort of thinking leads someone, no matter what their class, to actively vote to impoverish themselves over an idea whose core tenets are looking more fantastical by the day?

If you're hoping to ride out the recession at uni, as I hoped to ride out the austerity period, I fear that the wrangling will be so protracted that you'll still graduate into a slump.

The world is bigger than "Britain" now (not that that artificial political union will last much longer) and the markets will have their way. As a state socialist I regret it but that's the way it is.

What's the purpose of living a comfortable, easy life and achieving nothing?

What's the purpose of being born, finding a job, working that job and finally dying?

Better to struggle for something than live comfortably for nothing.

Necessity for starters. It's all very well saying there are more important things than work but just you try telling your wife and kids that when there is no food on the table.

Principles are expensive and I fear that as ever the working class will pay dearest for their principles.

Of course "getting a job and working a job until you die" is boring. That's why people have this idea of a career which promises them some hope of promotions and eventual success, which is why people go to uni.

Life has no purpose obviously, we make our own. Pursue EU withdrawal as your guiding light in life if you like. Just don't lie to the British public in order to force your vision on them - at great cost.

Ironic because the if the UK is a ship, it currently has no one at the wheel and has just sailed itself into a storm.

Far from sailing into a sunset, we have buggered our economy and are seeking the best way of being able to throw a tow line to the EU Ship.

Both pictures are pretty. But one is factual and the other is nonsense.

Are you sure about that mate? You may want to do some more reading, I know I spent days researching before I voted leave.
