ive really wanted to come to lse but my school friends always tell me stories of how lse is a really unsociable uni and there are too many international students who form cliques and are obsesssed about banking and careers.

i just want to clarify, are the people here outgoing and friendly, and if i studied at home will i be able to socialise fine and how?

Hey, I'm a first year LSE student going into my second year.
I just want to say that the picture painted by people that LSE is an extremely unsociable uni is a bit misleading. Don't get me wrong, it can be a very unpleasant experience at times if you do not go out there and try to be sociable, because of the fact that the campus (if you can call it that) is extremely small and people are really focused on their work etc. But key to enjoying yourself at LSE is to join a good amount of societies that you genuinely have an interest in, and will contribute to, socialising with some of your class mates, and making group chats so you're never out of the loop of things.

I remember last year I was scared about the social life as well, and I decided to stay in halls (Passfield) even though I live 30-40 mins away by train, and it really enhanced my experience because I already knew I had a group of friends I could chill or go out with. So if I was you I would make friends with people from different halls so whenever you go out or want to relax you can pre-drink or just chill with them at theirs.

Without trying to sound like a broken record, your experience at LSE is determined by how much effort you put into it, both in an academic sense and a social sense.

Hope this helps, and that you enjoy your first year!
