Teachers give homework because they're too idle to teach

Yeah especially in state schools. In private and grammar at least they teach to not just get a c grade and then provide homework to really stretch the students

I don't agree with that at all. Firstly, giving students homeworks would be more work for the teachers who have to then mark the homework and give feedback for the students. For example, my biology teacher rarely takes in our work because according to her she wants 'a proper holiday' instead of sitting at home doing all the marking because she has 'a life after all' and she 'refuses' to dediciate her time doing the marking. That's what we are told. Secondly, I think of homework as a way to practise and consolidate your knowledge that you've obtained in lesson. Receiving feedback from teacher is an incredibly useful and beneficial way to find any improvement to further improve your work, which personally I find very helpful ( especially for my GCSE and A-level)! Thirdly, I don't think there is a link between homework and the teaching method as you are given homework regardless of what teachers you have. At A-level, everyone doing the same subject ( for biology at my college) is given the same homework every week.
