    They can't. At least, not just like that. They have to demonstrate that they are meaningfully a political party as an institution, not just a collection of MPs.

    I still think a split is likely, but I don't think the anti-Corbyn MPs particularly want it, because it means giving up the Labour name, brand and all its resources. TheSDP defectors, by contrast, were only a handful of MPs.

    There has been a suggestion that the Co-operative Party may split from Labour and carry many of the currently non-Co-op MPs with it.
