I didn't know what forum to post this on, but i just wanted to say I'm looking to do Medicine in the future and i want to get some work experience and I'm not sure how to do it. do i email like the nearest hospital near me?

Firstly have a look at the work experience guide on TSR for advice and ideas of how to get started. When looking for work experience I found it important to divide them up into clinical work experience (hospital, GP or labs) and caring ( care home, working with children, ect). For clinical work experience you will likely need to apply a long time in advance so start there. For a hospital they will likely have a work experience scheme for students which you can try and get on, but bear in mind that this is always over subscribed so you need to apply as early as possible. If you have missed the deadline then ring up and find and when they start accepting applications for the net round and apply on that day. For GP surgery's I made a list of about 20-30 that were relatively close to me and rang them all up to ask for the email of their practice manager. Once you get the email then send a covering letter and your CV explaining clearly what you want. I send off emails to around 20 surgeries and only secured placements for 2 so it can be quite frustrating but you have to persevere. For a research centre/lab do a similar thing to GP surgeries. Next you have the caring work experience and this is likely to be a voluntary placement which shows your long term commitment. For a nursing home do the same as GP but specify that you want to volunteer for a couple of hours a week. This shoudnle be too hard and it is much easier to secure than the other stuff. I also would recommend volunteering with Revitalise and they are residential so you can use it for Gold DofE. If need any more help or have any questions then PM and ill try to help. Good Luck
