Best laptop for university?

Hello,
I'm starting university in the fall, and I was wondering what is the best laptop for a university student?
I will probably end up buying a laptop and a desktop computer(I'm thinking about a Mac Mini).
The reason for both is having a laptop with a smaller screen can be harder to work with for hours.

I'm not going to buy a very good laptop, because I'll be bringing it back and forth to and from university. So can I get some relatively inexpensive choices?

Thank you.

What course will you be doing, and what's your budget like?

Will you need any specialised software/be using the laptop for gaming?
Yeah it does depend on the course you're doing and what you're planning on doing with the laptop.
If you're planning on just using your laptop for work and word processing etc. I'd recommend the Dell XPS13. It's very lightweight and powerful for its size (look for a model that has a 128GB SSD with 1TB hard drive).
If you need a laptop to run more intensive programs such as for video processing or games then the laptop will be heavier and more expensive. Something like an Alienware 15 would be my recommendation but if you're looking for something lightweight, it might not be the best idea.

I'll be going into business and I won't be needing any specialised software. I'm from Canada, so I hope to be less than $500CAD(so about 250 pounds)
