Just because you've seen Muslim women dressing in a 'Western' way (when saying Western I'm assuming you mean inappropriately), that doesn't suddenly make it permissible.
Not only is their interpretation different, it's also wrong, because the rulings of what a woman should wear is laid down clearly.

Yes I do believe he could have handled the situation better.

There are plenty of things that are laid down clearly, which are luckily ignored by most Muslims.

To use the bible as an example (as I risk less rage being thrown my way like that), the killing of infidels is allowed and called for directly by Jesus in multiple cases. I could bring up many such cases being present in the Quran.

So, really, thank goodness for 'different interpretations'.

Doesn't sound like a very good father to me. As long as it isn't a threat to your security, I'd tell him where he could shove his unwelcome views.

If you feel safe enough (I know I'm afraid of confronting my dad when he's mean to me so I wouldn't be able to follow my own advice haha) say to him that if he wants to be around you he needs to start treating you with respect. You are a grown woman, you don't live with him, and you ARE NOT his property to control. If you don't want to go on the holiday, don't do it. Your happiness and mental wellbeing is far more important than his bruised ego. Do what's best for you and don't let anyone force you to do otherwise. You need to be the most important person in your life
