I think the "Becoming Estranged" option is a bit over the top. They are his/her parents. They are the only parents the OP will ever have and won't be around for ever. Provided the OP generally gets along well with them I think deliberately making themselves estranged , and avoiding all contact for as long as three years simply so they can go to University, is rather extreme.
Some of these comments, are so mean "go and get a job an fck off anyway" style.... what if OP goes to Oxford?! They don't allow you to do ANY work during term time, some unis allow you a very minimal amount which won't help that much
Ask them for a loan if that's the way they see it. Otherwise, work part-time during the year and potentially full-time in the summer if possible. An extreme option would be disowning your parents but you're not in that dire of a situation, hopefully
