A-Level including native language at Edinburgh

Hey guys,

My sister wants to apply to Edinburgh using 3 A-Levels: Maths, Physics and Spanish 2nd Language. She is however fluent in Spanish, and I'd read online that some unis wouldn't accept one of your A-Levels to be a 2nd language course in your native language. I did however look on the Edinburgh FAQ website and found a question asking exactly this, and it said they did accept students in this situation. It's a little risky because my sister would only be taking those 3 A-Levels, so if they suddenly change their mind she wouldn't be able to apply as she'd have only 2 A-Levels.

Was anyone here in this situation and if so, how did it go? Was it all OK? Thanks :smile:
It is risky and I don't blame universities who refuse to accept second language A levels. Do you have a link to the page that says they accept them? I can't find it. Your sister has to decide to either take the risk or not. I would not advise her to ask admission tutors about it, drawing attention to the fact that her third A level requires no effort is not a good idea.

Not only did I read the FAQ but I sent them an email too, this was the email and their response: http://imgur.com/a/EHVkD
If you could read that and tell me what you think of it I'd really appreciate it. But from what I see, I think they would accept it, even though it were in 2nd Language, because they actually care more about you having the complete 2 year qualification over an easier 1 year qualification.

edit: i should point out that she is studying for Maths and Physics on her own as the school she is in in Chile does not help her in studying for them. I'm only assuming that has a lot of significance and academic weight because she's effectively working much harder and is in a much more challenging situation than most. She apparently told me this was true (that independent A-Levels are seen very positively by unis) so perhaps she'd be considered for a place under the Contextual Admissions procedure? Your thoughts? :smile:

it seems clear both from their email and the FAQ that they would accept an a level in Spanish .
As they say themselves they accept English from students whose first language is English .
Given you have evidence that they accept it I don't think she should have a problem (other than Edinburgh being very competitive of course!)
