Are you socially awkward?

So today whilst I was doing my volunteering work this guy (probs 19/20) randomly came up to me and started a conversation. Half way through our conversation he said "my name is ... by the way" and I said "okay"
That was literally my cue for me to say my name but I said "okay"
I literally hate myself for being so socially awkward.

Have anyone of you been in a situation like that before/are any of you socially awkward too?

Yes. And it's all because I shun real-life socialising whenever possible. After my previous thread I'm trying to make more effort. I guess practice makes perfect? (Although that said, my "effort" was to make me the subject of my conversations, which probably doesn't fly in "social land"...)

The ones that aren't post only on the uni subforums to find flatmates, or the subject forums to seek study help

If it makes you feel any better I constantly get into these really awkward handshakes with people which is just uugghh such a pain.. makes you want to crumple up inside.

That sounds like something I would do :colondollar: How did he react?
I can be at times, especially when talking to someone on authority or ordering something. If someone talks to me casually though I'm usually OK.

He just smiled and then I smiled back and it was doubly awkward so I just carried on doing whatever I was doing.

He seemed nice though because after he left he came back again with cookies and even offered me one.
I've improved a lot.

Bizarrely I could be a genuinely very good conversationalist with some people but spluttering and awkward with others.

I don't like ordering food either especially at fast food chains because I can't make up my mind on the spot and talk to a stranger at the same time. So I usually always order the same things every time even though i'm bored of it, unless it's Mcd's where they have that computer thing which is a god send!

The thing is he probably did sense/realise that I am socially awkward yet he still spoke to me for like an hour.

I once shook someones hand and then I realised he was just holding the door open and gesturing for me to go through. Then I walked into someone as I left.

It really does get better with practice though.
All the time! 😄
