Cancer treatment: Nanoparticles

I'm doing my final assignment for the Brilliant Club in school, and I have a question regarding the use of Nanotechnology in the treatment of cancer.
Through active targeting, when the nanoparticle enters the cancer cell, it diffuses through the cell via RME. But surely if it can diffuse into the cell, then can't it just diffuse back out of the cancer cell. Also, couldn't it potentially release it's anticancer drug when outside the tumour?

Thanks in advance
What is RME? Does it actually diffuse into the cell? And yes depending on what the target is there can be off target effects.
