I know this is a little up close and personal but i need some advice. I want/need to go on the pill but i don't know what to expect. I don't altogether want to go to my family GP so can i go to the practice nurse instead, or does it have to be a doctor? Also, how long does it take for the pill to actually start working?Sorry that I know so little ;D

    Thank you for the advice!

I think you have to actually go to a doctor, although there are family planning clinics that can help you out and give out contraception too. If you get it, it'll be kept confidential anyway unless you're very young and your doctor thinks you're in danger so it's not like anyone will find out. As to how long it takes to work, it depends where in your cycle you start taking it, but generally it should be 7 days. Your doctor would confirm this.

some gps have sexual health nurses or a family planning clinic will be able to help

Best place to get it at is a GP. But it's confidential and they will not tell your parents or anything. It depends on when you start it, like at what part of your cycle. But is usually working after 7 days of use, as long as you keep using it as required.

You can also just buy the pills from an online doctor but you'll have to pay like £20-£30 for 6 month supply and a private doctor would first run some safety checks before giving you one so you're slightly risking it that way.
