How to multiply out bracket and simplify -3x-(x+4)?

Distribute the -1 into the bracket as
3x(x+4)3x+(1)(x+4)-3x-(x+4) \equiv -3x+(-1)(x+4)

Then proceed to simplify.

That's what I thought about. The person who asked, along with the answer he/she was given, were both wrong as far as I recall.
