The word 'troll' is misused way too often.

The public and the media in particular need to learn what troll is, because they constantly misuse the term. I'm tired of seeing headlines like "Trolls send death threats to woman" and "Man harassed by internet trolls." Those people aren't trolls; they're just *******s. People need to learn the difference.

This may even be news to some of you, but a troll is a fake. Someone trying to take you for a ride, trying to trick you. A true internet troll doesn't actually believe the controversial things he or she espouses. A troll is a trickster who wants to get a reaction, to make you think they're the real deal and waste your time.

People who genuinely bully, harrass, and say hateful or bigoted things on the internet arent trolls. These people simply are what they are: bullies, bigots, and hatemongers.
