1. Does anyone else think people often have misconceptions about differentiating and using wrong notation/not fully understanding it. Are schools to blame?

Incredibly so. Another common thing in students books that I hate seeing is stuff like this:

[cos(a)*(dy/dx)*a-sin(a)*y*a]*[y*a+(dy/dx)*x*a]

Where a=e^xy

By my calculus is rusty so....

P.S. I have no idea how you managed to put proper fractions and stuff in your answer because I don't use this site very much
