RAF Communications infrastructure technician (aerial erector) (rigger)

Hi, i have just recently done my P3 filter interview for the RAF.
'Communication infrastructure technician,' requires a specialist interview. I have not been given a date as to when the interview is and all i know about it is that it is going to be 1-3 days long and test my functional skills in english and maths.

I don'tknow what to revise or if there will be a test on other topics as well as the functional skills maths and english.

If anybody can give some information on the specialist interview for this trade it would be greatly appreciated.

Thankyou
Hi i am trying to join the same trade and had my specialist interview in august sometime, theres no maths or english tests in it. Its all about climbing various masts to see how you are with working at height, the functional skills tests are in prtc which i completed last week. Also if you have english and maths gcse's your exempt from sitting them. hope this helps.
I hope you like heights..! Google Stenigot tower - they used to conduct the aptitude/exposure to height test there.

Not a bad trade to get into. You will probably spend a lot of time working out of RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.
Having only just stumbled on this thread, if anyone wants to know anything about being a CIT in the RAF (my Trade) let me know and I'll get back to you when I can.For awareness though it's not just working at height, there is a great deal of network infrastructure work too, such as testing and installing fibre optics and cat 5 cabling across the world.....Even Antarctica!

Hi Steve,

I've recently received the dates for my specialist interview and I was just curious as to how long it took for you to get your results back? And from there on to get the PRTC dates?

Also how are you finding it as a CIT in general?

Thanks in advance.
Hi Jack,

Apologies for not getting back to you sooner (problems logging back in!).

With regards to the interview process, just be yourself. They want to know more about you as a person and not what you know about the intricacies of the Trade (you'll learn about that in Trade Training if you are successful). Obviously have a look on the main RAF recruitment website and understand what the CITs do and where they are based (most probably you'll be posted to RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire as that's where the majority of them are.

Let me know if you need anything further

Hi Steve,

I submitted an application to become a CIT a few weeks ago, still in the early stages but fingers crossed it all goes well...

I understand it’s quite a small trade so I’m expecting the selection process will be quite demanding (on top of the depends of joing in any RAF role) have you got any advice on making in through the application process? E.g. Key points to get across at interview regarding understanding of the trade and role applying for?

Thanks in advance, I’m sure il think of something else but just thought this is to valuable of an opportunity to pass up (speaking it someone in the trade)

Jack
Hi,

I believe the AES staff at Digby will have done all the reports probably that day and the AFCOs should have the results by the end of the week.

I've done 22 years, so not finding it too bad!
