Deferred Entry or Clearing
I have applied for deferred entry and have firmed a place at Nottingham, i know clearing is meant for places this year but am I able to phone either of my choices to ask them if they will accept me for 2017 entry even with lower grades??

No. Clearing is to clear spare places for starting this year. You would have to apply again in the coming cycle, and to do that you would have to give up your place at Nottingham.
